Stop #02 🕊️
by Lindsey DeStefano

The alley behind Peace Surplus and the Orpheum Theatre is one of those spaces most people walk past without a second glance. It connects Aspen Avenue to the parking areas behind the main commercial block.
The Rotary Club of Flagstaff commissioned this mural as part of their community beautification efforts, transforming a forgotten passageway into a destination.
Lindsey DeStefano spent two years planning this piece before a single brushstroke hit the wall. She hand-mixed 58 individual colors for the project, a level of chromatic precision that gives the mural a depth you can feel even from a distance.
DeStefano won the 2023 Viola Award for this work, recognition of both the artistic achievement and the community impact. She runs STARTLocal, a give-back campaign that channels art into community service.
Hidden near the base of the mural are handprints left by volunteers who helped with the project. Your guide Jamie will tell you the rest, including the details you can only see up close.
