Glass Wall Art

Historic glass art, 1940s to 1950s

Old Babbitt's Garage, 123 N. San Francisco 1940s-1950s
Glass Wall Art by Historic (1940s-1950s), a mural in Historic Downtown Flagstaff

The History

The Babbitt family is one of Flagstaff's founding dynasties. Their business interests stretched across northern Arizona, and this building at 123 North San Francisco Street served as their automobile garage and sales showroom starting around 1915.

The Art

The glass art pieces on the facade of the old Babbitt's Garage date to the 1940s and 1950s. They represent a different era of public art, when architectural decoration was integrated into commercial buildings as a matter of course.
